It’s done! A full team went to Birmingham for the IAAF World Indoor Championship, where more than 500 athletes from 150 different countries competed at Arena Birmingham.
The Championships, which were staged from 1 to 4 March, was the biggest indoor sports event to be held in the city for 15 years. This was the first time that any country had held the outdoor and indoor world championships back to back, following London’s successful staging of the IAAF World Championships in August, another great event we were part of.
Thousands of athletes, coaches, officials, VIPs and international media, from across the globe, were in Birmingham for this event and thousands of spectators headed to the city too. Although 2018 is a busy year for sports media, and the event was hot on the heels of the Olympic Winter Games, we knew that media interest was high and we provided them the best possible conditions for them to work.
Birmingham has a special place in our hearts, as we have already successfully done two world class events in this very venue, and of course Jayne Pearce was born 10 miles west of the city. So it was a real homecoming for us and we put our top team on it, fresh and sharp from London 2017!
IAAF President, Lord Sebastian Coe went as far as to say that this event was “one of the most successful of all time”. Read more here:
