Director Jayne Pearce receives honorary doctorate.
Pearce International Director Jayne Pearce was awarded an honorary doctorate from Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) in November 2015. This was in recognition of outstanding contributions to and achievements in media and press operations in sport, as well as her engagement with staff and students at the University. This is the culmination of a partnership with SHU that started in 2008 to develop a series of academic modules for sports management students: developing content for the modules, and delivering guest lectures and seminars to students.
‘I was absolutely bowled over to receive this award. It meant so much to me to. I had vowed to myself that if ever I was in a position to provide students with an opportunity to learn what it is like to work in an event environment I would do so. Sheffield Hallam helped me achieve this aim, as well as a fantastic London 2012 Press Operations Management team. Best of all, the legacy lives on today’.

These academic modules provided 200 students with an opportunity to volunteer in press operations’ roles at the London 2012 Olympic Games and has seen SHU students involved in many major sports events since. The feedback from the students, staff and organising committees has been first class and is a genuine legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games.
In addition, PI Director Andrew McMenamin has been named as a member of the British Olympic Association media team to go to Rio for the Olympic Games this summer. He will be coordinating all media activity taking place at British House and will be dealing with athletes and their families, sponsors, VIPs of national governing bodies and UK government officials and ministers. A joint initiative of the BOA, the UK Government and the Greater London Authority, we expect there will be plenty to keep him and his team busy.
