The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games brought together thousands of elite athletes, friendly volunteers and excited spectators to join an incredible festival of sport and culture.
Pearce International Director Andrew McMenamin was selected as Venue Media Manager for the Athletes’ Village, a highly visible and interesting non-competition venue that hosted all the teams for the 71 nations and territories that competed, with bed spaces for 6,500.
The Village hosted many major celebrities including HM The Queen, TRH The Duke of Edinburgh, The Earl of Wessex, The Earl and Countess of Cambridge, and Usain Bolt.
The media centre provided a full range of facilities: press conference room, 2 small interview rooms, 60 station workroom, help desk and so on. Three media tours were organised for the world’s media, and the Village hosted many major celebrities including HM The Queen, TRH The Duke of Edinburgh, The Earl of Wessex, The Earl and Countess of Cambroverview-summaryidge, and Usain Bolt!
The Directors of Pearce International, Andrew and Jayne are two of the most media savvy and professional people I have had the pleasure to work with. In my area of Athletes’ Villages the opportunities for not getting your communication strategies right are endless. Prior to an event the Village is often the only source of news worthy copy. Having those around with the professionalism of Pearce International, as was the case with Andrew at Glasgow 2014, provides all the village people with huge confidence and the freedom to get on providing services at a high level for the athletes.
