Project Description

Given the remarkable history of the USA in track and field, it might come as a surprise to many to learn that the USA has never hosted the World Athletics Championships; but nonetheless, it is true!

2022 is the year when this anomaly will be put right, with this premier athletics event moving to the small Oregon city of Eugene, population c 160,000.   Eugene is known as a university city, with the University of Oregon its second largest employer, and is also famous as the original home of the largest sport and fitness company in the world, Nike. Eugene’s track and field heritage is unquestionable; hence its nickname of Tracktown USA.

The event has been postponed until this year due to the COVID pandemic but it is now all systems go.  Pearce International has been involved with the event since 2020, and we will be providing all of the non-USA media operations specialists, with many of our key experts coming from all over the world. Operations on the ground have been led by our old friend Lorraine Rawlston and we know she is looking forward to having the PI team join her in her next-to-home state.

The action will take place in Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, where a striking new facility has been built, with its eyes firmly on its legacy use for the university and for national level track meetings. This makes it small by the standards of previous stadia to host this event, but will deliver an amazingly intimate experience for the spectators lucky enough to get a ticket.
