In a first for the company, PI has been engaged to provide advice and consultancy on media operations for the fourth largest sporting event in the world, the 2019 Pan-American and ParaPan American Games in Lima, Peru.
The games, hosted in Peru for the first time, will bring together the nations of North and South America, with over 5,000 competitors in 36 different sports. As part of a recently signed government-to-government agreement between the United Kingdom and Peru a team of UK experts will work closely with the Lima 2019 organising committee. This team has experience of running over 100 major sporting events including the 2012 Olympics, and is helping the Lima 2019 organising committee to deliver the infrastructure and organisation of the games on-time and on-budget. Pearce International is proud to be part of this expert team!
Already Jayne has made two trips to Peru and Lorraine has made one to specifically scope and plan the Main Press Centre. The work continues outside of the visits, with frequent Skype calls and planning milestones between the PI team and the Lima-based Peruvian Manager of Media Operations. It is a project that we are really excited about, with Jayne saying
“I am so pleased that Pearce International is involved with this project in a mentoring role. Development of local talent is a real passion of mine and there is no shortage of talent in Peru. With an event like this, we have a chance to build a genuine social legacy for a developing country taking on an ambitious multi-sports event. It’s a bit like our work in Baku between 2014 and 2017 and I hope to see young Peruvians stepping up to international sports work just like the young Azerbaijanis did.”
With the government arrangement covering the entire duration of the project until the closing of the Lima 2019 Games, we hope to be seeing plenty more of Peru!
